Public showers in New Zealand

From hiking, biking and skiing its spectacular peaks and valleys, to kayaking, surfing and swimming in the many rivers, beaches and lakes, there’s no shortage of ways to get mucky while you’re exploring New Zealand. That’s why you’re gonna want to have the CamperMate app to tell you where to find the nearest public showers.

Of course many low-cost campgrounds, caravan parks and lodges will give you access to shower amenities included the accommodation price, but what if you’re free camping or need to freshen up on the fly? That’s when you’re going to need a Plan B for staying squeaky clean.

If you’re just after a quick rinse under cold water, and don’t mind stripping down to your togs out in the open, public toilets across New Zealand often have an outdoor shower that you can use free of charge. Look out for these at public parks, reserves and beaches.

Scoring a hot shower usually requires handing over some lose change. Depending on where you are, expect to pay anywhere from $2 to $5 for a timed shower at a public shower block, to up to $10 for a good long lather at public swimming pools and recreation centres. Petrol stations, laundromats and occasionally caravan parks will also allow you to use their showers for a small fee.

Check out the map below to find public shower locations across New Zealand, or check out our other maps with public showers in Abel Tasman, Coromandel, Northland and Queenstown. Most importantly, don’t forget to download the app so you can access public shower locations, as well as everything else you need, while you’re on the road.
