ABOUT US
A few years ago, it wasn’t easy to find public toilets, petrol stations, supermarkets, free wifi, tips and campsites when travelling in New Zealand or Australia. In 2011, CamperMate’s founder Adam decided to do something about it.
During his university holidays Adam decided to drive a 50cc scooter the length of New Zealand , collecting GPS coordinates in all the hard to find places.
With this data, and working with councils and government, he compiled a huge database of 6000 facilities. With the help of two friends (Bruce and Deb) they launched a free iPhone/Android app called CamperMate.
In 2014 we translated the app into German, Chinese and French and started collecting data for Australia (this time by a dedicated team in campervans and not a scooter!). We launched support for Australia in 2016.
Users can contribute to the database by adding new locations they find by using the ‘Add a location’ button on the CamperMate app.
We’ve now grown into a passionate team of 25 people helping people in both New Zealand and Australia to go exploring.
